"There is an infinite resource of morons out there and they tend to gravitate near points of interest."

I'M LAZY !

... but most of you already know that.

the thing is like this: i'm too lazy to upload stuff on deviant art and too lazy to write new journals ...
i have like ten tons of pictures that i could upload ... and some other stuff ... a lot things happened since i last wrote a journal ...
buuuuuut i'm too lazy to do it

soooooo you can find some pictures from sziget festival here [link] most of them are taken by me some by my girlfriend ... i think most of 'em are processed by her ...

there's a lot of stuff going on in my life right now, things come and go ... basically i'm good

you good ?

good!

i have a question for you people that will probably remain unanswered but i will ask it anyway just because. (yeah, thanks a lot for your "help" with the tattoo problem ... zero answers ... but it's ok ... i did it already and i won't show you ... HA HA !)

so here it goes

WHAT IS AN ARTIST? what it takes for a person to do to be an artist ? what characteristics does a person need to have to be an artist ? what does he needs to eat or to drink or to smoke or to shit? what clothes has to wear ?
ok ... i know this is stupid but bear with me ... basically i want you to make a portrait of what you think an artist is like ... do you consider yourself an artist ?!

ok ... so i don't get a lot of replies on my journals usually ... i'm not even sure that anyone reads 'em but if you do, try to answer that ... you might find it quite a exercise for your brain if you give it enough importance (not too much tho';)

anyway ... cheers and have fun, it's the best thing you can do with your life!

p.s. yeah, no css for this journal ... i got tired of the old layout so until i'll chage it (god knows when i'll be in the mood and have enough time) it's plain ol' DA baby! KUDOS!

I think you should try to watch "Basquiat" by Julian Schnabel. Maybe there is a bit of answer at your question of "What is an artist for people ?".
Sincerely, ... Why do you ask this question ?

Someone who really tries to "make" something?

I think, if we're looking for the meaning of the word, an artist is anyone who creates art... which makes being an artist an odd sort of thing. I mean, anyone can create art - so anyone can be an artist.

The real problem is defining what makes art, and the problem itself (i think) is that people aren't satisfied with broad definitions. People don't like saying everything can be art, because it threatens their position as artists - who needs artists when everything can be seen as art? ...but really, if beauty can be seen in the everyday, why can't that be art? - and when art doesn't even need a creator, I guess it becomes all about perspective.
:icondrgutman:
i'll look for it ...
as for "why?" ... i just want to compare the image that i have about an artist with the image that other people have ... it's probably similar with the "art" topic ... i don't think that there there can be found a true definition to art ... so everybody is making their own picture about it ... different people, different pictures ... also ;) i get a lot of "you are an artist" replies in normal life and i keep saying "yeah, well, no, i'm not" "an artist is something different" and all that but recently someone told me something like "it's just the sensation that you make other people have around you" (it was about some weird glasses that i like and everybody says that are ugly, it was something like "you have this "artist" thing going and they are ok for you") ... it made me have doubts about what i usually say about being an artist.

i think you have to take more into consideration the final product ... there are a lot of people who try very hard to make something but they end up with something low quality (from different reasons)

Hm. Good point. Bah. But what I know, is that the modern definition of art annoys me. It seems whatever the hell you make, can be defined as art, as long as the creator has a "deep" explanation for it :P

It annoys me perpetually!

:icondrgutman:
for me art has to be man made ... sure, nature is beautiful by itself but without a human touch i don't think that it can be considered art ... also, anyone can create art but not everyone does ... i think it takes more than will to create real art ... i see it as a combination of idea and skill and (because that's the way things are going in this world) a lot of advertising ... there are a lot of people that tend to throw everything that they don't understand under the "art" topic but if you ask them to give you details they lack a proper background to be in position to have such an opinion.
i mean, sure someone can have the dedication to make a very complicated piece of "something" but if there is no idea behind it i don't consider it art. and viceversa, you may have a brilliant idea but if you don't have the skills to do it right it's useless ...

as for the image that i have about an artist ... when i think about it, the bohemian type of artist it's the first thing that pops up ... like in the old paris (i imagine that that's what amsterdam looks like ... never been there tho, i hope i'll go soon)

the thing is that i get that "you are an artist" stuff from time to time and i tend to say "no, i'm not" but i'm begining to have doubts ... :)

:icondrgutman:
yeah ... but is it art ? just because someone says so ?! is a person an artist just because he says he is, or because other people say he is ?

:iconariades:
I think it's all a pretty loose definition :P

But... I'd say it absolutely has to be either something interesting, something beautiful (at least pretty), or something thought-provoking.

Maybe something simply amusing, too. Or maybe not? It's hard to draw any lines here.
